Just a thought as it’s the 1st of the month, I would like to propose that KiteWeekenders support a Charity for a year and do whatever it takes to raise money for that particular good cause.
Two charities I have always supported are SCOPE and Great Ormond Street Hospital, having a daughter with Cerebral Palsy I have received some outstanding services from them both over the years and who said ‘you can’t get something for nothing’? It never cost me a penny!
I need not sing their praises as it is common knowledge what they do, and do extremely well, so if no one has any objections can WE see how much we can we can give to Great Ormond Street Hospital this time next year by whatever money making ideas / scams we can come up with?About Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity Great Ormond Street Hospital treats many thousands of patients each year - children who are suffering from the rarest, most complex and often life-threatening conditions. We raise funds to support the Hospital and ensure it remains a world-class hospital.

Its been in the For Sale section since September 3rd, and is still as good as new and WILL be sold to the highest bidder, if you don’t want it…buy it for a friend or to put on EBay yourself!!!Highest bidder at 10pm on Tuesday the 24th November WILL have it! All sounds a good idea to me Some of you may know that as well as doing embroidery for a living I have also just invested in equipment to do dye sublimation and transfer printing (up to A3+ size) on to various garments and products. I have already been asked by a few people about doing Kite Weekenders clothing and products for next season, so I would like to offer a percentage of what ever Kite Weekenders stuff gets sold, to go to our chosen charity of choice for the year. Regards Dave

How about something that was discussed for children in need last year, but never happened: An Urban Ninja fly in the squares and open spaces in central london.

An excellent idea Just think of all the kites that will end up in trees, another little earner for GOSH or Children in Need

Another idea, how about building a Kite Arch and have people sponsor a sail in return for which they would get their name (or that of a loved one) printed on it. Additionally you could then go around with a collection tin each time the arch was flown or even blag money off festival organisers where it was flown.
You would need to get GOSH's permission to print their logo on all the sails, have Roy print up say 100+ sails without names. I'm sure the kite makers amongst us could make up the sets of 10 sails and then Dave could print peoples names/dedications with his new sublimation printer as and when the sponsorship was sold.
At say a tenner a sail that would be £1000 less costs (if there were any) raised for a 100 sail arch plus donations and fees each time it was flown. I sure between us we have the contacts to blag most if not all the materials for free or with a significant discount given the cause and particulalry if we put the donator's name on a proportionate number of the sails.
The assemby of the sail sets could also be a kite weekenders winter workshop.
Just a thought.
Guy
PS Of course the ubquitous feather could be printed in the waste material from the sails giving something else that could be sold/auctioned off for the charity. On a rough estimate you will get 10off 50cm sails and 8off feathers out of a metre of 150cm wide printed fabric.
