I have an old E Sky 0905A 4channel simulator which has been GREAT for training on aircraft and helicopters, but I want to get something more realistic.
Trolling around Ebay there are lots to choose from but I don’t want to spend a fortune and buy the wrong one! Anybody have any advice? I also wanted to add specific aircraft into the system….like the ‘kite plane’ pictured below.
I would recommend everybody have a go at one of these simulators, it really is like flying the real model ….. very educational, without the expensive repair bills and from the comfort of your home!

I use FMS (Flight Model Simulator) on Marilyn's laptop because there are limited options for the Mac. I could probably run it on my latest one, but haven't got around to sorting it yet. It is pretty good, there are aircraft downloads on the web, and with the lead I got from America I can use my regular transmitter to control it through the buddy box socket, not a dedicated sim one. It came on cd free with that lead. Would you like me to bring the cd to Sumners, snow permitting? X-plane is probably the best one, written on a Mac, available for Mac, Windoze and Linux, but was designed for full sized aircraft and R/C is a bit limited. Also, you put in the aircraft dimensions and IT tells YOU how it will fly, so far too complicated for us ground-based fliers. It also ain't cheap!

Thanks for the info on an ifo sim, I'll have to get it running on my Mac.
(Note to DaveM: I had an email from Smith Micro offering VM Fusion for $20 but the UK wasn't on the country list, so I tried their UK site and they still wanted $79! So I sent them a reply saying why I wasn't buying! Still waiting for an improved offer)
The McGregor tx wouldn't work with the ifo rx (not surprised really!). I have now hacked the tx and got everything working correctly: swapped the red and black wires over on the elevator pot. One white led ain't working, so I am not that impressed with the quality, but feel the price! Now all I need is the weather to try it...
I'll pass on your birthday wishes, he was busy today, but we are hoping to catch up with him tomorrow.

Hi Roy, I managed to get myself a Tx usb sim controller, and also ended up coming out the shop with a Blade Mcx Have not had much luck running the FMS software on a Mac VMware virtual XP machine or windows 7 either. Bootcamp with VMWare seems to be the best option to get the sims to work on the iMac. I decided as FMS was grief to install on my Vista laptop, I would try the Clearview software which although is not a freebie states it will run on Vista and Windows 7. So far so good Our tearful Global moderator was upset that he had no micro heli, so Sheila had to go and pick one up for him on way home from work. Update: Just crashed into the Christmas tree need new bauble before Sheila gets in

Hi Dave I have been reading an rc forum about Mac flight sims, and it seems neither emulator works well, it needs bootcamp to keep the video running fast enough. Might try that with XP from Marilyn's disc and FMS next week and see what happens. Genuine Mac compatible rc flight sim: Ikarus Aerofly £129 (a bit pricey, but these are the cheapest sources) www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=5081www.inwoodmodels.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=64I have tried Flight Gear, but it's full sized aircraft, and although my Futaba Skyport 6 works (mostly) with the usb adapter I got from the us, I can't seem to change from the cockpit view. (The FMS website appears to be down, for a couple of days now I have had bandwidth errors for it)

ROTFL...the flying was excellent in the short time you have had the toy miniaturized mechanical remotely controlled flying machine, its the story line that got me.
He's going to hit the tree.....no he didn't! He's never going to land it back on the table....yes he did! He's going to blame the PA / camera woman if anything goes wrong....no he didn't!
One handed flying, no Godzilla (Duchess) leaping in to pluck it out the air.....no anticipated flying into the windows and the unexpected punchline at the end I was not expecting!!! OR WAS IT DELIBERATE? ;D ;D

Click HereThis is the USB sim controller that I purchased from Sussex Model Centre, it also comes with a copy of FMS software, although this software requires a bit of computer knowledge to place a missing .dll file into a specific folder to be able to run on Vista. Picture shows the E-sky one but mine was made by RC Systems, does the same though.

I've got the Mac set up with Windows XP from Marilyn's back-up disc, but unless I register it will expire in 28 days, so I might have to fork out for a copy which will register (she only has the one user registered, and I daren't shut her laptop down!). I haven't managed to copy FMS from her laptop yet, so I might need my disc back sometime, please Dave.

Still struggling to get Windoze to run properly on the Mac: everything SEEMS OK, but I can't connect to the internet If I can't cure it, it will mean buying another copy of XP, in which case it might be better to spend the extra money for the Ikarus Mac sim and forget Microscrap and get a large chunk of my hard drive back ;D Either way, Collin, as DaveM has my copy of FMS, I won't be bidding for yours
