Any reports from Hop Farm then ? Flying Area, Weather etc Cor blimey mate, giv us a chance...been flying KITES in the RAIN till 5pm, had the whole field to myself as the previously mentioned squalls came in at hard at around 3pm that saw the less internationally experienced kitists bottle it and retire defeated! It was nice (I think?) to be named in 'dispatches' already....
Kites were flown most of the day in gusty winds and rain, but not many public braved the mud and weather so all the trade stands, food stalls and amusements were virtually empty all day. Had the sun shone there was a fairly good turnout of kite fliers that could have put on a spectacle but it wasn't to be! Much like the Ardingly Autumn Show there is lots to do and see on site, but NOT in this rain and gusty wind!
CLICK on the picture below to see the photos taken today that says it all really!Quick update, it has never really stopped raining all day and now at 7pm the wind speed is picking up so 'rocking and rolling' as I write, just going outside to put my anchor down as I'm getting a little sea sick in here!

Colin. I must protest. No warning given before I saw this picture first thing this morning. TOO MUCH!!!! Hope it's better down Paddock Wood way today (though doubtful). Ah well, I'll watch the MOTO GP later and get the kites unloaded from the car where they've sat since Friday night (and when I decided Sat moring to do some shed strengthening work instead of getting wet for pleasure on the flying field). See ya at Sumner perhaps in glorious sunshine next week?

I cannot get on with this Proboards app on my Samsung Galaxy but giving it a try all the same as there is little else to do down here at the Hop Farm!
Having rained quite heavily all night and the constant battering from high winds swayed me gently to a great sleep in my cosy rabbit hutch, I woke up to look out on a FLOODED field that will bog down anyone who chances driving across it today! I cannot see anything taking place as there must have been destruction and flooding around the events areas and as silly as I am it would be foolhardy to attempt to put a token kite up in these winds when ankle deep in mud! It is dire out there and thats just from looking out my window!
Three caravans, two trailer tents and I braved the night...but we all will have to traverse the six inches of water logged field for 200mtrs to get out to the road...no pics as I have not ventured out and no intention of doing so yet!!

And after a morning of heavy rain, the wind abated and the rain stopped. The sun came out and gave us a chance to dry kites and tents and awnings. Your intrepid international kite flyer was last seen rescuing others from the paddy fields of Kent. He has the photos to prove it, though doubtless modesty will prevent him from publishing them.

I have never seen real ducks swimming on a kite flying field, when I woke up this morning ( Sunday ) not only did I have a flat caravan battery but the field was full of mini-lakes which the ducks enjoyed. Not only that but my caravan was in the middle of one of these mini-lakes - not good, thanks to Collin and Mike for helping me out to rescue my caravan. During Sat/Sunday night the rain and wind was the worst I have heard or seen whilst caravaning . £118 for a new battery at a local caravan dealer. Not good !!! Despite all the above we did manage to fly a few inflatables and great to see some friends. Thanks goes to Syd for organising this event.

I'll leave him to explain!!!!! After my somewhat depressed report this morning it turned out to be well worth getting out of bed today! I’ll let the pictures do the talking, I hope this is a better image for you Quadrophenia!? T'was more fun than watching the moto GP on TV!

Had a nice weekend flying Sunday turned out to be lovely even caught the sun, trudging through mud and puddles still made the trip worth while, enjoyed being with fellow kite flyers.
Chloe
Had a great weekend drove on the field saturday morning first thing i had to do was change my flat trye for a silly 50mph wheel. So greasy muddy and wet i decided it was time to fly, out came the hq delta with nice long tails, it sat around 400ft up for a few hours until the cross spar exploded and the kite landed in a heap on the ground, since bad things tend to come along in three's i wondered what else could go wrong, the day continued well better than i expected. We left around 16.30. Arrived nice and early Sunday morning sporting a brand new tyre to a very very wet field and no signs of life from campers decided to grab a coffee, Flew mega sled with tube tail and had a bit of a Rev fly pond skipping in the middle of a field. Depsite the weather and the mishaps along the way i absolutely enjoyed the weekend. Thank you Collin for help with gas bottle, thanks goes to Bonefish he spent all afternoon hunting down a more suitable tent for us, we have aquired said tent and are looking forward to showing it off next weekend at Sumners.
