I don't know if anyone can help, but the bracket for the water filter has broken, and I may not get a replacement in time for Easter, so I need to isolate it from the rest of the cold water system. There is an Opella tap, with copper pipes in and out for water feed and supply, and the filter is fed from a connection on the stem. The knob is reluctant to turn in either direction, and I am reluctant to force the issue. Does anyone happen to know which way to turn it to shut the tap, and does it isolate just the filter connection, or both? I have enquiries out with both the Timberland owners group on yahoo! and with the original company, but I am trying to cover all bases... No pic, as it is mounted above and behind the fridge: I can't even get a camera in there, never mind take a picture, sorry.

Is it like this Roy ? Clockwise to shut off If it won't turn off, and you have a fitting like above to the water filter, you could de-pressurize it, and fit a stop end to cap it off on a temp basis.

Thanks Dave, looks like the one: I didn't realise that it could be/is a piercing fitting onto the copper pipe, hence my confusion.
I've spoken to Finer Filters, and they are getting a new filter and head in the post to me tomorrow, hopefully it will arrive on Wednesday, and I can get it fitted without delay. I shan't bother with trying to turn the tap off unless the new stuff fails to arrive in time...
