Has anyone here got the DJI Phantom Quad? I'm thinking of upgrading from my micro's to something a little larger. Have read a few reviews and seen footage but would like to hear a few personal opinions.
I like the fact it's got a gopro mount with it and gps with autoland but I've heard a few stories of them flying away lol. I also read you have to buy a better set of props to get ultra smooth footage which sounds a bit of a pain but at around £300 I'm not sure you can get anything better pre made out of the box.

I have not got a DJI Phantom, but have a DJI F450 with a Naza controller and GPS, TBS Discovery with Naza/GPS/FPV and a F550 with a DJI WKM controller, so a reasonable amount of knowledge of DJI and their controllers. First lesson: Never believe a bloody thing the tell you Lesson Over For the money, and someone starting out that wishes not to build one, and with the recent reduction in price of £150 (to make way for the Phantom II and the Phantom Vision) then it is quite good value, and a good starting point. Do not expect super smooth video, not with just changing the props to Graupner ones, it will be better, but not super smooth. (Can be improved in post production video a bit though) I have not had a chance to look at the new E-flite Blade 350 QX BNF Quadcopter that has just been released, might be worth a read of reviews to see how it compares. (not that E-Flite have the amount of experience like DJI do in quadcopter and helicopter stabilisation controllers. Things are changing rapidly with quadcopters, I have spent a few months away from them, and changes are massive, new gimbal controllers, new gimbals, new controllers, bluetooth controls, etc etc. Decide on what you think you want now, and go for it, otherwise you will be waiting forever On that note, quick long video of the upcoming Phantom Vision (Prototype version) Baz also has some DJI gear, hopefully he will chime in

Cheers Dave, yea I forgot to mention the 350 QX, it was the other one I was looking at but not much owner feedback around right now due to it's newness. My pricing and technical requirements (mounting my gopro3) make DJI Phantom and the 350QX the 2 obvious choices for me I think though. I might see how 350 pans out in user reports before I completely commit to the DJI. I might wait a bit...but not that long lol

This is where not to fly when you are a novice pilot Playing Ping Pong between skyscrapers is NOT recommended

Oh thats nice! I was going to buy myself a blade 350Q but after reading about and watching endless videos of the props falling apart in mid air I decided to buy myself a 450 frame and a job lot of parts to construct my own. I figured if I can build a decent RC KAP gimble for my nikon I can probably do a decent job on building my own quad. I wont have the fly home etc as I'm just going to get a non gps module to start with then I might fit a fancy naza later.

DJI have the new Phantom Vision up on their website, 25 minutes flight time is impressive. DJI Phantom Vision

I was a bit sceptical about the advertised 25 minutes flight time, but a couple of videos around seems to prove it is correct.

Well after selling a few things, and a few more to sell, I then managed to talk myself into buying a Phantom Vision 2 (It was not hard to convince myself really) So far, so good, battery life is amazing, but some early adopters of the vision are suffering with an invalid battery fault, as the system checks that you have not installed a cloned battery ! (not that any are available as yet) Had 4 flights already, and quite pleased with the still shots (reason for buying really) and the video is OK, but needs some serious post processing without the craft having a 2 axis gimbal. A few pictures below, I am not a great lover of the fisheye effect, so have tweaked in Adobe Lightroom at little. And my first poor attempt at a Toy Town effect, taken from the local field (tilt and shift lens)

Those are impressive shots Dave and I immediately went and looked up the price again lol. I should stop doing that! Thanks jezza I am really pleased so far, DJI have not finished the converter for the camera raw files as yet, so that should help improve the still shots when it is released and you can work direct without jpegs. I agree the price seems a bit heavy, and I thought it would put off beginners to the hobby, but there seems to be lots of them buying the Vision already, so I guess I was wrong. Not sure I would recommend it though, it is easy to fly, but there are lots of other things to think about when you are starting off, adjusting camera tilt, taking photos, videos, checking altitude, distance, and fighting off people who keep asking what you are doing, can be quite distracting sometimes The convenience of having it all in one case is great, just pick it up and off you go. I also made a bracket to use the iPad mini instead of the phone, not had a chance to try it as yet though Those are impressive shots Dave and I immediately went and looked up the price again lol. I should stop doing that! £345 on Amazon I wish it was John N june I think that must be the discounted Phantom 1 without camera etc
