Thought I'd put some stuff up on mini racing quads now I have finally figured out what I changed my forum password to Firstly, racing is a loose term as most don't actually race them, they fly them fast through buildings, parks, trees and anything else quadcopter sized. Some do actually race them but largely with friends for a bit of fun. Pretty much what they are is mini quadcopters running flight controllers that can be toggled to fly in extreme ways or in chilled out GPS stable flight mode like the most laid back DJI Phantom. Most have a camera and transmitter fitted for FPV but it's not required, however flying FPV (when you wear goggles that see what the quad is seeing) is some serious fun. They don't really make good static air camera platforms like the DJI's as they have little damping , no gimble and less flight time but they can still record pretty much anything they fly around plus you can fit a gopro. Many people refer to them as 250's, this is it's size, where as a Phantom is 350 sized you can go to 550 and beyond. The biggest difference/downside in a 250 to say a Phantom is the flight time, its quite low being around 7-10 mins but the upside is the batteries are £6 each, so just take more Average cost of getting a build your own FPV 250 in the air using a cheap set of 'goggles' is around £300 all in. Without fpv and fancy stuff you can get one in the air for £200ish with RC, batts etc. Anyway, here are some vids, enjoy

Here we go Jezz, this should be quick enough for a nice small FPV racing quad All you need to do is train your brain to keep up with it

That's pretty insane Dave, I have trouble flying manually without FPV as it is! I tend to lose orientation with the miniquads so I've ordered some lights for mine. I recon it's an age thing as these kids seem to keep up alright, just wait until they get 40-50yo and cant make shapes out at distance anymore, that will learn em

I don't think I will bother to try this, I felt sick just watching the video in some places

It's not as bad when you're actually flying. I don't race and I fly at a much more sedate speed but I love flying fpv. It's like hard drugs I suspect, I just keep wanting more...oh and spending more money on it to get a better 'hit' of sky
