I have watched and listened so much over the last few years and also living next to the sea for all of my life
about the ever growing problems and issues with plastic in our Oceans and along our coastlines.
Not just around the UK, but across the entire planet, and perhaps not for affecting us too much, but the people we
leave behind may see entire species eventually wiped out.
Sky TV have been spending lots on promoting awareness, and the recent TV series Blue Planet by David Attenborough
showed some frightening scenes of just what happens even as far away as the Antarctic, with an Albatros regurgitating
plastic to feed her young.
Through kites, I had an idea of creating even more awareness, however large or small, but have spoken with Sky TV, who cannot
commit to any funding, but were happy to try and promote us wherever possible, by just using #oceanrescue tag on Facebook and Twitter.
(with pictures to help)
On the back of this I have spoken with Alison and Lindsay about trying to do something at Margam Park in 2018
Wales are promoting cleaning up their beaches next year, so the idea all fell together quite well, and Margam will not
be the only Kite Festival we could do this at, another closer to home for me springs to mind
The idea was that the Air Banner could be flown with simply stating
SAVE OUR SEAS #OCEANRESCUE
plus an empty plastic drink bottle, just one or two tied off to the kite line close to the bridle point on any fish or sea creature type kite.
An example below
I would also hope to get some literature printed, that would enhance and explain to people what the empty bottles were all about,
and if I can make it happen, a clean the beaches campaign locally, with members of the public getting a FREE starter kite, in exchange
for a bag of plastic from our beach. (I need to look into people cheating at this, perhaps I should speak to Collin)
