Anybody bringing a broadsheet newspaper with them?? Don't think you need a copy of The Times, you could get 40cm out of the Sun... a page three sled might have a couple of things going for it

I am still reading the rules, we need to know where the flexi-point is, thus allowing us to bend them.. ;D I think rules 9 Notwithstanding any of the above, any kite not considered to be within the spirit of the competition may be excluded and 1 The organisers decision is final should just about cover any bending, rules or otherwise Now bribes could be another matter... no, I didn't say that

Looks like I better remember that uncasked whiskey I promised to let Norfolk Dick try. I take that is what is meant by "the spirit of the competition" Couple of shots of that and the judge wouldn't care even if he could still see.

Might have to bring in some Second Officials to help with some aspects of it.

With little more than a week to go the tension is building. Will Batchoy's welds hold? Will DCW's eyesight fail? Will Colin compete in Pink Budgie smugglers?
All will be revealed at [glow=red,2,300]JOLLY UP 8[/glow]
Cheers, Greenman

I'm going to have a try. This is the paper template/prototype. No good in damp or high wind conditions so now I've got to transfer it on to something else. Any one got any very thin titanium? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I notice there is nothing in the rules about the flying line, so presumably using manja and cutting the opposition out of the sky is permitted!

Arthur's attempt at bribing the judge seemed to work: he got a feather for Best New Design! That uncasked malt was !@£$%^&*!ful! I did bring in a second judge for the Prettiest Sled (well done, little lady), but lack of wind meant it was probably more of a lottery than a kite competition for the other awards! (but I'm not going to admit to that, either!). But I thought it was fun, and hopefully all the entrants enjoyed it, too. Thanks to ALL eleven who entered, although sled fighting was NOT on the original agenda! It WILL happen again at Jolly Up 9 in August, but I'm looking for a new judge, so's I can enter: any volunteers, please? I don't think there need to be many changes to the rules, but perhaps the size could be increased, perhaps to 60 cm length. What do you think? Discuss atwww.kiteweekenders.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=kc&thread=804Most sleds seem to have little lift and a lot of drag, and generally fly with line angles of 30 degrees or less. Why is this? The weight generally isn't too high for the sail area, so it can only be down to poor sail design. Who's going to be the first to design a sled that can fly at 45 degrees? Now THAT would be progress, and a name in the books for a good design. ;D ;D ;D
