4th / 5th / 6th September, Kites over Capstone, Capstone Farm Country Park, Capstone Road, Gillingham, Kent.
Camping in the flying field has just been agreed with the rangers, so I have put it on my calendar to attend as a definite! See some of you there....

Just for thebloke, found this info. It is a Great flying site!
Nearest Place: Gillingham
Also Near: Gillingham ski centre
OS Grid Ref: TQ 780 645 - Landranger: 178 - Multimap Link
Height ASL: 100 metres - CAA Limit: 30 metres - NEAR ROCHESTER AIRPORT
Location: Capstone Farm Country Park, Capstone Road, Gillingham Kent, adjacent to the ski center,
Directions: Leave the M2 at junction 4 and follow the signs for the ski center. When turning into the park, instead of turning right into the ski center car park, continue up the hill to the main car park. The flying field is a short walk through an orchard.
Parking: Large free car park, closes at dusk, open all year round. About 100 yards from flying site.
Facilities: Just a big field
Accessibility: Difficult for disabled
Flying Area: Grass field, usually mown, but not short, popular with dog walkers and horse riders.
Comments: Plenty of room for flying and buggying (check with park rangers before buggying though. One of the park rangers is a keen flyer, so is usually very supportive. Height limit is 30 metres due to proximity of Rochester airport, but Kent Kite Flyers get this lifted to 1000 ft for their regular club meetings there (see website) Kites over Capstone event is held here.
Local Clubs/Contacts: Kent Kite Flyers. Email gareth(at)kentkiteflyers.org.uk for information.

Having found this on the KKF forum, apologies if anyone is offended by my 'cribbing' but its informative and in a good cause!Re: Capstone Farm Country Park Hi all
I sent an email to a lady called Julie Doherty who is the Events Officer last week, asking if we could camp from the friday night, this is the email back,
Dear Jamie
My manger has approved for you to camp in the main field list last year.
Best of regards
Julie Doherty Events Officer Tel: 338109 Email: julie.doherty@medway.gov.uk
I hope this clears everything up,
cheers JamieOn the strength of it I am definitely going up there on FRIDAY 4th. It would be constructive to know who else is intending to go ....Council Website: HERE

Another 'thread' has been started elsewhere.....just to confuse the WHOLE ISSUE even more, cheers buddy!
I have just posted this on the KKF forum:
" Oh woe is me....my head is spinning. FOUR people have already canceled their participation, and therefore their kites. Kites are the attraction to a kite festival, although they appear to fly themselves I can assure you there is always a kite flyer somewhere near the bottom of the line keeping it safely up there. Invite a kite flyer and hey presto, he will put on a kite display, happy organizers, happy public.
Treat them like imbeciles ( I wanted to say piss them off, delete as necessary ) and they go elsewhere…maybe this is not considered at the planning stage, you NEED kite flyers!
Please tell me if Kent Kite Flyers are the event organizers, and therefore the (SPOC) official point to address my dissatisfaction with the whole charade. "
Are KENT KITE FLYERS the organizers of this event, does anyone know?At this moment in time I am still intending to CAMP / SQUAT / TRAVELERS RIGHTS etc. in the vicinity of Capstone, FRIDAY.... as that WAS the original request and I have planned things around it!

""OK I have just got of the phone to the council.
We are apparently allowed to arrive from 9.00am Saturday 5th September, Julie (from the council) was originally told the same as last year i.e. Friday through Sunday but the rangers changed their minds and made it Saturday trough to Sunday hence the confusion, she is not sure where the 2.00pm can from and has confirmed 9.00am.
lets hope that now we have spoken it is all OK for people to turn up as discussed.
Simon ""
Looks like (not being a rebel or commie) I will be leaving TOMORROW for 9am ETA. If only to have a bloody good MOAN (not really me) to the rangers, and upsetting everybody..(not really me either)

The Capstone park c**k up. We rearanged our holiday in Dorset to be able to leave early & head up to Capstone on Friday (as asked). Then we had to rearange again to stay on site after finding out that camping would only be on Saturday. Thanks to all who kept us informed.
I probably wont bother next time as the council arn't in to joined up thinking.
Anyway we went to Dorset Steam Fair instead. Glad we did.
Cheers,
P.S. Collin, thanks for sortin' Kristian out for me. At least those glasses will hide the Black eye.

Hey Greenman......SUCCESS!!!!! Finally got my point across to one of the Rangers, NEXT YEAR, almost certainly, CAMPING will on the main field and from Friday![shadow=red,left,300]After the fight discussion, there was still time for L U V V V E![/shadow] QUOTE TAKEN FROM A FORUM ELSEWHERE [/b][/color] After a lot of pre-event kafuffle and griping ( of course I did my share!) it was all put behind us once aired ‘face to face’ at Capstone and the pictures indicate the atmosphere of the event, a good laugh all round. Thanks for joining in Kristian, and the rest of the Rangers…..same time next year? Count me in! ;D
Cheers, Sven von stirrer.
PS Just let us know the date and time it will be on, please….
