Whilst talking with RoughMac (Martin) the other day, he suggested that Rougham Estates may let us use Rougham Airfield for one or perhaps two additional weekends next year. For those that have never been there, the airfield is possibly the largest expanse of flat flying ground in the UK that we have to use for kite flying these days. Should be about £5.00 a night, and has toilets, water and a chemical waste emptying point. Who would be up for that ?

We might, I agree with the flying site, but its a bit of a trek around the M25, especially on a Friday, and it depends what else we might have on...

Nice flying site, but Its a long way away. And I hate the drive home over that bridge!
Once a year is enough for me. Thanks, but no thanks. Cheers,

"......bit of a trek around the M25...... I hate the drive home over that bridge!" Well, for us it's no trouble at all! Rougham being the only event that we don't have to traverse over that bridge. Yep!, count us in for any future jaunt to R/ham.

LARGE MODEL AIR SHOW- 1st & 2nd May KITE FESTIVAL 15th & 16th May WINGS, WHEELS & STEAM- 26th & 27th June AIR SHOW- 14th & 15th August PLOUGHS to PROPELLERS - 2nd & 3rd October Colin - now who could we approach for this? Would that be me by any chance ? ;D I don't think it a good idea to fly kites at some of the above events, in fact it will not be allowed for most of them. For example :- kites don't mix well with flying objects such as model air craft, wings, air show and propellers which covers most of the events above except the kite festival in May However, I'm sure to make it worth while for you to travel to Rougham near Bury St. Edmunds I may be able to arrange for a long weekend get together - say from Wed to Monday inclusive - if that helps ?? but I would need good support for this to take place so the landowners make some money out of the £5/night camping fee. Over to you !! Martin ( Roughmac )

Colin - now who could we approach for this? Would that be me by any chance ? ;D Over to you !! Martin ( Roughmac ) Thanks for the reply Martin, indeed YOU were the man it was aimed at! ;D ;D ;D Camping for a longer period would mean time off work for most kiters, but if it was planned in advance and dates set then people could book time off, maybe, but it would be worth seeing who would/could be up for it. Chicken and egg scenario really, and with the calendar filling up rapidly....
The Large Model Show and other air attractions.....I know if I was flying my aircraft the last thing I would want to see in the air is a damn kite.....BUT as fellow friends of Rougham Airfield I wondered if some cross club camaraderie could be instigated, we come to theirs as guests (and not fly kites) and they could come see a kite festival and our Kites, doing a static display of their models but obviously not fly!
Basically I know of at least six Kiters on here that would (probably) love to camp and see the show, and as a group camp together and advertise KITING to the public?
OK, OK .... bottom line is: I am asking if you can blag some of us a FREE invite?[/b] Oh,oh.....I'm see I may be going to fall out with BJ, checked the calendar and Merton Farm is on the 1st and 2nd May! Still worth asking the question if the opportunity arises on your travels?
