Saturday 12th November.
Day 3 of the organised kite festival….and NO WIND at all so having a chill out by the pool and thought I would give you lot something to read!
Day 1.
Having met up with other kiteweekenders at the airport at the 7.30am check in, we left a cold and drizzly Gatwick at 10am on Wednesday 9th there totalled fourteen of us ‘kitists’ on that flight! Arriving at HOT and SUNNY Fuerteventura at 2.30pm we collected hire cars and off on the half hour drive to our hotel. Blimey it was hot….lovely hotel and rooms on the pool side within jumping distance! Leisurely stroll down to the town centre in shorts and T-shirts to sample the first of many restaurants that will sustain us over the next ten days. (IF I can afford it, after theDay3 episode)
Day2.
Left the hotel to drive across the Island to ‘El Cotillo’ for the first flying day, there meeting up with the EKG contingent of kiteweekenders and a few other regular Fuerte attendees who were recognisable in their ‘2011 Kiteweekenders T-shirts’ so twenty five or more of us from the forum along with many more Brits and Johny foreigners all kite fliers. A reasonable days flying as the wind was up and down, but there was sunshine, sea and sand to play in, and we did! The organisers provided a packed lunch which was appreciated even though we took snacks and drinks with us. Restaurants in the evening again, after a dip in the hotel pool to wash off the sea and sand, what a life….
Day 3.
Same as yesterday, left for the closer beach festival and on arrival I made a turn across the centre ‘line’ to park up. As we pulled up I saw Captain Scarlett coming over, and thought he was coming to object to my ‘Thunderbird’ posts….by no, he was a Spanish Cop collecting for the Police Quota off Tourists and fined me 100euros for crossing the single white centre line!! I NOW know that their ‘single’ line operates like our ‘double’ centre lines. After much borrowing on the beach I came up with 100euros and spent the rest of the (and holiday, I dare say) having the pi** taken out of me. Kite flying was fair to begin with, not a great deal of wind and unusually overcast and even got chilly, give away indicators of the chill were all the nudists being well overdressed! The wind died several times during the day and terminally at 3.30pm so packed up and back for a swim at the hotel, remembering not to cross any more ‘solid’ white centre lines! All you can eat Chinese in the town and a heavy RAIN shower finished off this overshadowed day.
Day 4.
WINDLESS start at our usual 10am departure time from the hotel, so a couple of scouts were dispatched to the festival site to see if was windy on the beach. NOPE it was windless there to, and no sunshine either! So it was pool swim and tea on the veranda as is very warm even though its another overcast day, sat and wrote this around midday as all the others went sight seeing around town. No internet connection at present, but when we find one I will post this up, along with pictures so far.
