Better late than never…I have had one heck of a busy week with vehicles breaking down and a court summons for being one month in arrears with my damn council tax!
The Lingfield Steam & Country Show www.lingfieldsteamshow.co.uk/ last weekend was enjoyable, even though I was camped next to a huge fairground organ exhibit that played all day, every day! Seven camping units attended with a poor show of kite flying displayed during the day, just cyclist Steve and myself did anything to put on a show for the good turnout of public. The regular ‘camping’ field allocated to us in previous years had waist high grass in it as it could not be cut due to the wet weather last month we were forced into an area congested with static classic cars and a lot of vehicle movements during the day, which proved testing at times to fly in. After a communal get together for an Indian curry by the campers, everybody flew an LED Delta on Saturday night which went down very well with the organizers and other traders/campers on site as we wandered around with them before settling down outside the beer tent with them flying high and pegged out while we listened to the live band.
There was one heavy downpour of rain around midday on Sunday, ( and my next door fairground organ played ‘singing in the rain ) but it soon cleared and a steady wind and hot sunshine was again the norm as it had been all weekend. I never took many pictures but put a few up here on FB: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150990523748240.416876.193828308239&type=1
Rumors abound of us not being welcomed at ‘Stem Rallies’ as kites are not what these shows are about, and I have to say that IMO it is one very untrue statement as I, and I am sure many of you too, have had more compliments on the kite displays and how much it is appreciated as one of the best exhibits of the weekend at most rallies we have done over the years! Because we have done them for years, these events are tended to be taken for granted (again IMO) but to others it will be something different to the norm and seeing all the steam engines, vintage vehicles and unusual traders items are the attraction to me….and I get to fly my kites for free!
This weekend sees some kite fliers going to the
Northchapel Steam Show where I intended to go www.northchapelworkingsteamshow.co.uk/ , but Sabrina had already made ME plans to be at Teston kite festival and take her!
