RETREAT !! Well that is how the Kingsfold weekend ended on Sunday…. but we did get Friday and Saturday with sunshine and just sufficient wind to get some kites up. As ever the steam engines, classic cars/bikes/tractors/campers/tools/people/ cowboys and indians etc. were an entertaining way to pass a very autumnal feeling weekend.
Saturday saw about a dozen LED Deltas flying, first launched from the main arena at the centre of the event at the bottom of the hill from where we camped, then paraded threw the trade stalls to the beer tent and disco where threw bleary eyes I saw the closest formation night flying I have ever seen, I wished I had taken my camera! You may come across pictures on Facebook from others (accidentally, and only IF they are friends) perhaps if you do you can post a link here?
Sunday….like many events this year, saw heavy rain and gale force winds commence in the early hours and continued unceasingly throughout the day, which saw EVERYONE slowly pack up and disappear, traders, other displays as well as kiters! I and others intended staying on till Monday like we have always done, but when I poked my head out of my camper I saw the event organizer, Mr JD’s camper scarpering off the field at 3pm, and it was a virtually empty field in fact the majority of the other event attendees had scarpered too, leaving just Martin and myself on site!
I know it said ‘strictly no vehicle’ movements until 17.30hrs but being the naughty boys we are we broke the rules and were the last to leave a very wet and boggy Kingsfold at 16.00hrs……
