Spent the weekend at Lechlade in grounds of Lechlade Manor. Fabulous weekend. The grounds still have the evidence of medieval strip farming with great gullies and ridges. Trouble was with all the rain we’ve had lately, the troughs were decided waterlogged. Arthur Dibble had laid out a line of flags to follow to the camping area. I had no intention of being stuck (again) so went for it at great speed and eventually made it to a suitable pitch.
The weather on Saturday was perfect and I managed to fly a couple of Roks, a hexagon, the Sode we made with Robert Brassington, the Ralf Maserski cube from Premier Kites and a couple of others I can’t remember. Brilliant weather.
Bacon Butties, Burgers and delicious food was served all day. I missed out on the curry evening as my brother came over and took me out for a meal. He’d never seen kites with lights on and was most impressed when we returned.
Sunday the wind was a little more unpredictable!! It was blowing everything in the air into the many trees. I decided to fly my wonderful Lidl kite – the one that started life as a twin line but, with a little help from about 6 kiteflyers and a Peter Powell tail, is my version of a Flowtail. My excuse is that the tree came up to attack me but the next thing I knew, International Rescue had been called and I watched as they attached the line of a flying kite to the line of my kite via a ring and flew my kite out of the tree! Definitely worth £1 to Great Ormond Street to watch them get my kite out of the tree and I’d have paid a fiver to watch Batchoy fly a £3.99 Lidl kite!
Wind deteriorated and it looked like rain so everyone sort of started to disappear after lunch!. I stayed on until Monday morning and had an easy drive back to Peterborough. Excellent weekend though and a good site with a lot of hard work and facilities organised by White Horse Kite Flyers. Many thanks for a great time and a lot of fun.
