Found this on Roy Reed's website Kite AltitudeMaths was never my thing, so all I need is Guy (Batchoy) to write an app for the iPhone and buy myself a tape measure. ;D

It may be worth looking for a Hypsometer app, since Hypsometer is the correct term for a device used to measure height or altitiude. A friend of mine showed me one such app for measureing the height of buildings and trees, unfortunately it requires you to know the distance from you to the base of the object, and a set height up the object, not exactly practical with a kite. However I am sure someone must have written such an app using two measuring points a known distance apart, or even using the gps to work out the distance between the two measring points.
