Hi folks, I have been using the "spanish knot" as demonstrated by David Gomberg in issue 65 of the Kitelife magazine for securing single line kites to stakes etc. kitelife.com/magazine/issue65/daves65b/content.phpVery easy to tie knot and easy to remove when done. I never was a fan of larksheading onto stakes or carabiners.

It seems to be a simplified version of the triple bowline (which I found in The Complete Guide to Knots and Knot Tying by Geoffrey Budworth). Although it probably doesn't lock as securely, we don't use it for climbing, and it is much easier to tie, and undoes easily I've also had problems with tying off lines, this definitely looks worth learning AND REMEMBERING

It would be interesting to know if the Gonzalez Brothers developed it themselves, or learnt of it elsewhere: if they developed it, then they should certainly get credit for it.

The Spanish has worked brilliantly for me all season on all line diameters. Have been doing my best to spread the word about this one.
Could not find a definite Ashley Book of Knots reference number although as your rightly say it does seem to be part of the bowline family.

I haven't given up trying to find out if this knot is original (or not! ), I have found the 'equalising figure of eight', which could be similar, but I have not yet found out yet how to tie it: climbing.about.com/od/climbingknots/a/EqualFigure8Kno.htmI have a friend in a local knot tying group, and he is researching for me as well.

Guys i was only thinking the other day how to remember how to do a spanish knot and suddenly i remembered again. Very easy to do. www.gombergkites.com/faq/faq-span.htmlThe other way is to do a double larks head knot onto a carabiner.

I use this all the time, now, with ONE exception. I have one line which will NOT pull out when the time comes to undo it: it ALWAYS kinks and locks itself. I have to remember to use this line only from my hand, and never tie it off.
