Greetings
I would like to say what a great time I had at the Bognor Festival, it was for me quite the best Festival of the year. The winds were light to very light, which suited me, but I fully accept that is not what you really want for a festival when the visitors like to see the inflatables in the air rather than laying on the grass! The sunshine, oh the sunshine! It was unquestionably one of the very warmest sunniest weekends of the summer, so much so that I swam in the sea each day!
What the festival did have about it was a certain intangible feel or "happy vibe", not easy to describe but in my opinion caused at least in part by all the kite flyers being there because they truly wanted to be, not because of payment, payment in kind, the lure of reciprocal invites elsewhere or to further their profile on the kite circuit, of course it has to be added that were the winds more favourable there were more than enough full sized and several unique show kites to completely fill the arena.
The music was really good and the balance of traders and other stalls IMHO, seemed to be about right.
I would like to take my hat off to Dave Mitchell for the key role he played in organising the event; what I learnt from this is just how important it is to, "keep the pot boiling", regarding publicity during the weeks and months prior to the festival and I think we must all agree that Dave did a splendid job of doing just that, notwithstanding the work he put in during the festival itself.
I was also hugely impressed with Jan Malpas and all her work, what a charming and delightful woman, a great ambassador for the area and the festival.
Now in this world it is rare that everything is perfect and thus was the case at Bognor, the one blot on an otherwise perfect land/seascape......... a garish bad taste converted septic tank with articulated arms and a stupid smile, a huge piece of flotsam that in all probability washed up on the beach during a big Winter storm sometime in the distant past and now seems to have been adopted by the good folk of Bognor as their mascot?? I think it is a trifle unfair to accuse me of disrespect when I only shouted at the abomination, "Watt is that, go ohm you dimwit!"
I look forward to next year's Bognor Festival and I hope it goes from strength to strength.
Regards Dick.

Many thanks Dick aka norfolkdick for your kind words It was a great fun weekend, but a bit knackering at times It did need all of us to make it work properly, plus I have also emailed Jan Malpas your posting, as all too often she just hears about the problems and issues from the locals, and rarely gets much praise. She does not do Facebook very much, and forums even less I would imagine, so she was delighted to see that the kite fliers appreciate her work. Thx again Dave

Having seen photos and videos from the St Annes kite festival last weekend, I must say I was most impressed with the Friday night fly. Yes, I know there was no wind in Bognor, but if there was next year, can we do something about some lights to light up non-illuminated kites? I have a couple of 400w theatre lights and a small genny for a start...

We must be thinking very similar, I have already emailed some pictures of the St Annes night fly to Jan for a next year BRKF idea.
