Do we accept it is the sign of our times that we should have to worry about our safety when we are out flying alone? I was involved in an incident when I was out flying where I was threatened with a knife and had my kite slashed for no reason whatsoever.Police came and the person was arrested but inevitable there will be more incidents similar to this so what is the answer?
I would very much like to hear your thoughts on this both from the practical and legal aspects and also positive thoughts and ideas that we can all share and use when we are flying alone.
Thank you Jamrok

Thank you Jamrok Bloody hell, glad you are OK I would have said last week that knife crime was a trend that seemed to be mainly in larger cities in the UK, but on Saturday evening somebody was stabbed in the face, chest and arms in the gardens by West Park in Bognor. Luckily I have had very few altercations with the public when out kite flying, but these sad days carrying a knife seems almost a must for some youngsters, be it for protection, status or whatever other reason they find a need to carry one. Normally I would like to stand my ground should I ever need to, but being threatened by a knife is just not worth the risk in my opinion, gone has the day it was just a threat, these people actually can carry it out. Really not sure what the answer is, it has become a very serious growing issue in the UK over the last 6 months. Dave

Very sorry to have heard that as Kite flying is a leisurely pastime for peaceful people. Its very difficult to answer this one I would also like to hear other peoples thoughts on it. I have also had a few run ins with some very aggressive people in parks. And its not funny. I have just packed up and gone home. Have we got to got out with stab vests on maybe a little some thing in the boot to defend ourselves which could inevitably get us into trouble. Its a very sad day to think we now have to go out in pairs or small groups to feel an amount of safety. Or have to get in your car and lock it. Carry a mobile at all times, make sure its charged as a flat battery at a time like this would be a bloody nightmare. Hope fully this is a one off and will never happen again but I can understand what a shock this is to the system and will take a while to get over it. Hang in the matey summer is on its way. See you on the end of a line soon.
