Arriving at the Mumbai Domestic airport at 5.30 am on the 18th January, Clara and myself needed to get an Auto-rickshaw for the short journey to the International airport.
We were advised it would cost Rs 20 (approx .14p) to a max of Rs 100 ( £1.39) as we looked like tourists!
So this bandit pulled up, picture taken BEFORE his attempt to fleece us, and he sure looks like a ‘chancer’ in the photo (but I never noticed it at the time) and half way along the journey he said this would cost Rs 1500 ( £20.81) because we had a lot luggage! A lot of arguing and threats ensued ( You don’t ever want to get on the wrong side of Clara Kuhn ) with us getting out twice to find alternative transport … but we got back in on his insistence and did get to the International terminal, where we gave Mr Dicki Turpinwallah Rs 300 ( £3.16 still 3X too much! ) and said ‘on yer bike’….. Checking in for my flight I was 7kgs over my allowed 30kgs....and they wanted me to pay around Rs 8,000 (£110.99) for the excess....some quick repacking of kite lines/carabineers/battery chargers/anything small but heavy into pockets, bum bag and laptop bag saw me make the weight....just!

There are specialist 'jackets' out there that can be 'packed' like you would pack your suitcase!
Airlines charge in the region of £20 per extra per kilo you are over your baggage allowance and this is (at the moment) a bit of a loop-hole as you COULD DOUBLE your allowance by wearing your heavier items, quite legitimately!
So YES there is a possibility that they will weigh passengers, but that then is another issue as it infringes on your human rights to be any darn size you want to be!
AND if you own an i-pad, i-phone, i-pod, Mac book etc. etc. etc. etc.....

Andrew and Kathleen Beatie made square Kite Bags the exact size requirements to fit in that wire framed cage they use to check your hand luggage size to see if it conforms to fit into the overhead aircraft lockers, they also modified coats from zip to zip, around the back, to carry their lifters!
I found that on their blog a few years ago, but cant find the article now, you have a look / see for yourself.....blooming good read and fantastic photographs, too, for those that cant read...www.tug.com/
