I need a shafting service, having prepared just some of my broken hammers and axes, spades and forks (by burning out the broken ends), I wondered if there were still places that specialised in supplying and fitting new shafts? Anyone know of someone or somewhere to get them done? Fork handles…

Collin
Believe me you will find id much cheaper to buy new, when the 4lb club hammer I use in the van needed a new handle I bought one for £8 - then I bought TWO x 4lb hammers, brand new for £6 for the two including tax
In my case I did replace the handle as the hammer itself goes back a couple of generations and I repaired it just for "old times" sake

Doesn't heating the metal parts of these tools and then slow cooling soften them? I think it is called annealing.

That’s what I thought, and it is right! I took advise from a knowledgeable 'country bumpkin' in Burgess Hill who said just burn out the wood and stay away from the working ends as far as possible, so I carefully placed them on the fire as in the pictures below, shaft in!
Just this past hour saw the second last of my forks break its shaft, leaving me with just one good old reliable fork still functioning as it did a million years ago!
Badge on it says ‘Woolworths’ so can anyone tell me where I can find a Woolies, obviously quality gear?
