While the usual suspects were enjoying Basingstoke kite fest,i went to Exmouth on the recommendation of Elmo from Bristol i agree with him that the venue must be the best in the country, you get as much or even more room to fly as an individual than the performer flyers get, its not acres of space like Rougham or Middle Wallop but they make good use of what they have plus for most of the day you could fly on the sands of the estury, which is the greatest sight to wake up to. The camping flyers are prioritised and as such get the best positions on the site, you can fly out of your tent or camper or stroll across to the arena to demo your skills in the roc fight put your unusual kites up to show them, but never once are you pressured to do any of the above, the rotary club of Exmouth just want every one ,flyer or audience to get the best out of the show, Martin Lester was there with his new lips his old legs and everything in between. The sun shone till late we were brown , red, but never blue. Batchoy showed off his new inflateable Kitty, between us we got my Bol to fly,the lit Delta from big John was a non starter, but we were not short of night flyers with some original stuff not seen by your reporter befor, we all agreed that this was a knockout event, i for one will be back next year.

My thanks to Les for dinner Friday evening, excellent chicken my friend. now I know what to do with a half can of lager!!! And yes, it was me making a scene half way through the decorators megateam!!!

It has been enlightening to follow this thread on Exmouth KF, I assume it was THAT good an event that so many people have simply had to sing its praises in words and pictures on here.
Thanks for taking the time to share it with the rest of us that were mostly at Basingstoke KF over the weekend.
I clearly missed something a bit special by all accounts, and Googled the Map to find it would take me four hours to do the 200miles each way......

I had wanted to go to Exmouth for sometime only in the past is has been just too far (212miles and 4hours - though it took us 5hrs to get home on Sunday due to the traffic on Salisbury Plain).
However having the van and with Brighton at the start of half term and Exmouth at the end, and Leng having already booked a weeks holiday in the hope of going to Northern Ireland to attend the festival at Downhill Demesne and see family, we made a week of it and stayed in the New Forest for the few days in between thus reducing the overall distance required to travel to both festivals (Brighton is 119miles for us and we did 511miles instead of 662miles).
I would love to do it again but it would have to be for more than just a weekend to make it worth while.

If the site open next year like it just was, then you can get in on the Thursday midday, and leave Monday - makes a decent break, excellent site (be it a bit hard to get tent pegs in!!) really close to town centre for shopping an things, great venue on the estuary, and a fun festival.
If they get what they want book June 7th to the 11th now! Also note that with the Queens Diamond Jubilee theres an extra long bank holiday weekend on 4/5th June!! so it's only a 3 day week then. I'm planning it in.
