A tale of two halfs. Saturday was bright and clear with fairly decent wind for Teston. I had to put 5 kites away on Saturday evening so it must have been good. Plenty of public enjoying themselves. Managed a great KAP sesssion with Keith . Photos to follow shortly. Spud gun & shatterer rounded of the evening fun in the sun Sunday started with a steady drizzle. Some flew regardless, others like me just decided to pack up & keep dry. Very few public. understandable realy. Flyers were leaving from lunchtime. We left at 4pm, dry as a bone. Got home at 5.30 got soaked to the skin in 10 minutes putting the caravan away. Some great memories. Another classic Teston. Cheers, Greenman.

A big thank you to the Kent Kite Flyers for organising the event, and the Park wardens for their hospitality once again. I did like the above picture I captured just minutes before the KKF committee decision was taken to abandon a sinking ship, they never even took their hands out of their pockets to vote, the hasty convoy of their vehicles leaving made me smile … look at the time, NO vehicle movements till 5pm be dammed, there’s no one left to run over!
As Greenman has mentioned a weekender of two halves, Saturday was as every Teston is with very light winds in the morning and too much turbulent wind in the afternoon followed by a very still windless evening. The public as always out flew the kiters in quantity of kites in the sky and a few members did try to put up a ‘kite display’ for them but it was almost impossible. Sunday was a non starter, woke up to rain that only briefly stopped for an hour around 3pm but the damage was done and even the ELF decamped on a SUNDAY and ran home to dry out! A few brave public came and persevered to fly their kites in the rain, and have my admiration, as I hardly flew anything the whole weekend.
I would estimate that the attendance of people camping was 50% down compared to the same event last year, looking up the field from the main gate the right hand side was empty except for three campers; everyone else camped up the top end. The several clashing events and predicted bad weather was probably responsible? NOT having a group photo by the bridge summed up Sunday, I have never known JB not to insist on taking one at every Teston! As always, the weather influences us BUT never stops us completely as the ‘crack’ was as great as ever, as was the company, I’m glad I went. Even the ‘Kite eating Tree’ in the middle of the field went hungry, but it did manage a couple of little snacks to tie it over till later in the year!
Three of us stayed over till Monday, and it never stopped raining all evening, but Monday was dry, windy, warm and even sunny at times….leaving at around midday for the short journey home, I was but held up by an ‘old cronk’ on the road in front of me…see photos!
